The Yellow Train

Also known as “the canary”, the yellow train links the stations of Latour de Carol and Villefranche-de-Conflent. It crosses the Catalan Pyrenees Natural Park at low speed, allowing tourists to enjoy the view from the open top carriages. An emblematic feature of the Catalan landscape, it is over one hundred years old. Tickets are on sale at stations along the route.

Thermal baths

Cerdagne has long been a hot spot for thermal baths and spa treatments. Its natural hot springs can treat a wide range of ailments, allowing you to get back into shape at llo, Dorres or Saint-Thomas les Bains.

Solar furnaces

With 300 days of sunshine a year, the Cerdagne region boasts:
- two solar furnaces (at Odeillo and Mont-Louis) where you can watch experiments demonstrating solar power and its uses for research.
- A solar power plant at Targasonne (Themis).
- Another furnace currently under construction at llo.

Enclave de Llívia

This small Spanish village was forgotten during the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659. Remaining Spanish, it is now landlocked in French territory. It boasts one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe, the chapel of Saint Jaume de Rigolisa (a former place of pilgrimage), numerous typically Catalan Spanish restaurants and a remarkable view from the village heights.

Located 35 kms from Saillagouse (Pas de la Case) via France and 45 kms via Spain (Andorra la Vieille), this is a great place for shopping, skiing, and hiking.

Thanks to its rich history of wars and conquests, many of Vauban's castles and fortifications (Mont-Louis, Villefranche-de-Conflent, Vauban's masterpieces) are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Caves

You can also visit the Canalettes cave in Villefranche-de-Conflent or the highest cave in Europe in Fontrabiouse, where the temperature is constant all year round. This journey to the centre of the earth will delight visitors of all ages.

The Canigou peak

The highest peak in the Eastern Pyrenees on the Canigou range reaches an altitude of 2784 meters. Located in the Conflent region of the Pyrénées-Orientales département, it is part of the Grands Sites de France network. It is accessible to inexperienced hikers.

The Bouillouses Lake

The Bouillouses dam is in the heart of the Carlit nature reserve. From the Lac des Bouillouses, you can enjoy a wide range of walks: 60 kms of signposted trails will take you through 27 lakes with exceptional flora and fauna.

Catalan Pyrenees Regional Nature Park

The Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Catalanes is a vast territory of mountains and plateaux with the distinctive feature of Mediterranean sunshine. Created in 2004, it is the first regional nature park in the Pyrenees and boasts two spa/thermal resorts, two UNESCO World Heritage Vauban citadels and nine ski resorts.
